Pop Up Book.

COMMON, WHO DOESN'T LOVE POP UP BOOKS?
Now i'm the kind of person to get easily amused and this book (abcd) wowed and amazed me! With this project i didn't even consider doing pop up, its another form of 3D and do-able. This book was so simple and hidden magic within some of the letters e.g. the letter W needed a mirror to make the letter.

I wanted to see if this designer has done anything similar and she has but with numbers! This is mind blowing! your counting forwards but backwards at the same time!? It takes all my time to count on my figures  Marion Bataille has shown me that pop ups don't have to be complicated to look amazing but to be smart and work hard on a design. Id rather look at something witty, smart and interesting rather than a pretty cut out because im using my brain, im looking into the design to see if iv found all the meanings. Why make packaging that represents you, easy to figure out in one look? Because i would like to think im more than meets the eye. I will need to show this within my work. Who knew that books at university are this fun.

COUNTING THROUGH POP ART, RATHER THAN MY FIGURES.
Awesome
I thought instead of just looking at one artist id look at another, Tauba Auerbach caught my eye for the simple reason she has made large scale pop up designs, making the theme into Alice In Wonderland (large objects, small girl). I really like that idea, why think small? who says a book has to fit into your hand? Its made out of thick card, making it a hard cover book with thin, black, white and colour card. You can see some of her work in the bottom corner of the image.

When i was searching through google for pop up designs/packaging these images came up. Both have a design underneath the font but they are completely different. You can see the hands approach  ripping up the design making it interesting but suiting the images and theme. The other is clean and tidy. You can see this through the designs under the text and topping it off with straight, sharp typography on top. They have made something special happen with the typography which is the double tts connecting.

This research has opened me up to new ideas for the way i can do my packaging and typography. Why just make a box when i can pop out?
